Rev Up for Watkins Glen Opening Weekend
Watkins Glen is known by most for its beautiful caverns, waterfalls and gorges, but this quintessential Finger Lakes town is beloved by car race enthusiasts for its speedway and racing history. Located south of Yale Manor at the base of Seneca Lake, Watkins Glen International traces its origins back to 1948, when the first Grand Prix was held through the streets of downtown Watkins Glen. Long known for Formula One racing, The Glen has hosted road racing events in nearly every class of vehicles.
If you've ever wanted to find out what it feels like to drive this legendary road course, now's your chance. During Opening Weekend at The Glen on April 10-11, you can pilot your own personal vehicle around the Grand Prix circuit and experience all of the twists and turns this 3.45-mile course has to offer. Individuals and car clubs are both welcome to participate in this unique opportunity to experience one of the most historic circuits in the world first-hand. Proceeds benefit the Racing and Community Enrichment (R.A.C.E.) Foundation, aimed at meeting the needs of local underserved populations with a focus on youth-oriented support.
Races in the lineup for 2021 include the Ferrari Challenge North America on May 21-23, and the SCCA Majors Super Tour on June 18-20. Not a fan of racing? Watkins Glen International is also home to the Finger Lakes Wine Festival in June and the Finger Lakes Beer Festival in October. Check out the website for all of The Glen's events in 2021. Get your tickets for an upcoming race or festival, then book your stay at Yale Manor for a fabulous Finger Lakes getaway.
